I have discovered that there are some among us who have come into some sort of magic, or abilities, since arriving. Some even have a gift from before they arrived, that has thus gone unutilitzed. [ Rand. ]

If we are to be at war -- to win against a foe with greater resources than we have, then we should utilize every advantage possible. I know I've spoken to others here, who have a great deal of competency with the arcane. I believe it would be best, if we pooled our resources, to teach those among us who are not so practiced. Whether it is powers granted in this realm, or... [ said with a bit of a laugh: ] simply magic, there are methods to make them simpler to call, or with practice, they can take less effort to use.

While I'm no professional instructor, I have advised others on the use of magic when they were new to workings before, and any sufficiently trained magister can instruct another on at least the basics, and I think we should do so before we find ourselves on the field again. Even if you are practiced with your gift, I am sure there is worth in working together, to learn how our respective talents can work together, before we allow each other to be exposed, or even worse: injured or killed.

[ A pause. ]

Consider this a...statement of intent, if you will. I normally favor staying in Godsblood, but given the...volatile nature of unpracticed magic, I think I will find myself an appropriately sized clearing near Greentruth, if others wish to join me. A scant few days of instruction, if you will. I do not think it will be hard to find, if you are in the vicinity in the next few days. If others are willing, perhaps it will be of use, to make this regular for practice.

[ ooc; I'll be intending to put up something of a loose open log for magic-based folks to collaborate/help out any characters who are just coming into new powers, want practice or instruction, or just want to strategize with magic-related combat in general later this week! ]

I think this is a fantastic idea! I'd love to see how magicks work from other stars as well. A close companion of mine is also well-trained and I'm sure he'd be interested.

[War. She's very plain about it, in a way he can appreciate, even if the sentiment bristles. It's something he can turn over in his mind later-- the fact of the matter is that he's still no closer to understanding the powers the Pleroma had given him.

Godsblood has proven a bit... impractical. [See his volunteer being launched into the shallows of the docks.] I'll see if I can slip away from work for a few days.

I've recently been gifted magic.

[There's no small amount of wonder coming from him at it.]

It's incredibly new to me; my people aren't actually capable of it. It's not an offensive spell, however. I can summon a shield to me. But it's wise for me to actually learn how to effectively conjure it before I test it in the field, so to speak.

I, too, would be interested in seeing that. There are many...ways to approach magic in my plane alone, I can imagine that every other plane would also have new perspectives to offer.

You and your friend are welcome. I suspect there may be a need, and my particular brand of magic is... rather exacting. I'm sure there will be different approaches that would work for others.

It's incredible, how many of us are coming into power for the first time. In my world, it's rare to have magical ability come to one not gifted, and yet it seems to touch all of us when we arrive in this world.

[ A beat.] You're wise, I think. Mastery of that might save you in a pinch, yes? One never knows when an errant spell, or weapon, could be blocked at just the right time.

Quite so. I think you had theories about magic as well, yes? I'd love to see your calculations. [ A beat. ] We can share notes, in fact.

I'm not sure how useful of a teacher I can be with this sort of thing, but I'll do whatever I can. Also, what you were saying about methods that can make things easier to use... I already have a good handle on what I can do, but I can't say I've ever been very efficient about it. If it means I can fight longer without running out of energy, I would like to learn!

[ She's interested, immediately. Jayce had admitted to not being a mage before, but he was smart. Someone she considered capable of being on her intellectual level. ]

I would love to hear them. Should I make sure we have paper?

No? [ She sounds curious, not judging, like she's trying to weigh his capabilities. ]

I've known some who have gone for a long time on a great amount of power, which often leads to...shortcuts, or excess due. [ A beat. ] Sorry, siphoned power. How do you activate it?

[ A pause. ] All things to think about, I suppose. Efficiency is certainly a good way to win a fight of sorceries. [ She says in a tone that clearly says: I'd know. ]

Aye, that's my thought process.

Though I have some manner of training— I can use a blade well enough— I'm primarily an engineer. At the very least, I need to know how to defend myself and others.

[ There's a vague understanding, although what Calernia's engineers are like, versus what Eorzea's looks like, are very different. ]

That's very different than a magister, isn't it? Magic as I understand it may be...of interest to you, if you're anything like some of the more practiced engineers I know.

( yet another situation in which yuuta has to try to explain what he can do or how he does it... to his credit, he actually stops and thinks about how best to word it before launching into some rambling explanation full of special terms and proper nouns, but... there's only so much that can be done when it comes to trying to explain cursed techniques to a layman. )

Activate it... Um... I guess I just think about it? I'm sorry, that's probably not very helpful. When I was first learning how to use it, I had to concentrate a lot harder, but now that I've gotten a lot of practice it's almost second-nature.

But from what I know, it is the whole "activation" part that's the problem. I've, um... The energy that my abilities use? I do have a lot of it, which is usually helpful, but when I first activate a technique it's like — ffffffSHHHHHHHHHH ( here he seems to be imitating the sound of loud, rushing water... almost like a fire hose, ), because there's so much and the - pressure of it, almost? Makes it all RUSH OUT before I can get it under control and start channeling it effectively.

It's usually not a problem! But if I'm fighting for a really long time or using a lot of my more powerful techniques, it's possible I could run out, and... That would be really bad for me.

( like, "dead" bad. if he's out of cursed energy, he's just a normal teenager with a sword he's no longer strong nor fast enough to use properly. )

I don't know I'll make for a good teacher, but I've worked before with individuals with other types of elemental magic and I'm happy to volunteer for any kind of sparring practice for those who need it.

Aye. I specialize in magitek. Though I suppose the name is something of a misnomer– it doesn't involve magicks at all, instead it relies on a combustible fuel source. Needless to say, something like that doesn't exist in Greentruth.

Mm, you did almost have me asking about the nature of your devices. [ Magitek sounds like magical tech, Cid!! ]

I'm happy to explain. It's... Likely better on paper, but you can use calculations within your mind to compute the energy, like thinking through the distance from your casting space, to where your target is, compound it with the energy needed to travel there, and how much force you wish to place into it, before you direct the energy.

[ A beat. ] For, say, a simple fire spell thrown in a person's direction.
