Well, depends how you kill them. You know that crystal thing you woke up with? That's your soul. As long as that stays intact, you're good. So I figure the best thing to do is to kill them and bring their soul back with you. Regent'll know what to do with that.

But if you got no choice but to permanently kill them, that's probably better than letting them get away.
