THE REGENT'S ADDRESS [OPEN TO ALL]

[It comes on fast, once the Regent has your spirit in their hold. Around you, you may see other Aions stumble in the same moment, as if shaken by the same tectonic motion. An inexorable darkness claws at your senses, and you have only a few moments, hard fought, to reposition yourself so that you don't simply drop to the ground when it overtakes you. It has similarities to Communion, to the way another entity's thoughts and words reach out to your mind, but by the same token it's entirely foreign.

This presence is not like another person, it is like a raging, screaming cacophony that drowns out everything else in its path. Whether you be Kenoma or Pleroma, the Regent's presence in this metaphysical realm is staggering. To the Pleroma, though, it also feels caustic, as if the movement of their aura is enough to erode your own, with time.

Gradually, a new world forms. Unlike other Communions, where you are ultimately grounded in reality, here you can been dragged to what seems to be its own distinct psychic realm. A vast, void-filled courtroom, where only the throne at its front has a defined form. Around you, you see shadows of other people, other Aions, that have summoned along with you... but for the moment they seem spectral and unclear, their identities obscured by the realm's aggressive focus on its master.

The Regent sits at their throne, their body swathed in dark fabrics that drift and flutter like smoke. They have no face to be seen, only a faceted silver mask, without any markings or the barest indication of what might be beneath it. Their size is indistinct, maybe a bit taller than you are. They at first sit reclined, but straight up as their 'guests' arrive.]

It's been a long time coming, my subjects.

[At first, they are the only one that can be heard. Though you feel as if you have some physical presence here, a shadowy body of your own, if you attempt to speak no sound emerges.]

To the Pleroma: well done surviving thus far. Granted, I feel as if my Kenoma have made things easy for you. How strange, that most of you were allowed to wander a city within my empire without recourse. Able to summon that wretched creature to your side, even.

I hope you've enjoyed yourself, in the time you've had, because this will be no more. You've spread your infection in Venera, in Godsblood, and it is only necessary that these wounds be cleansed by the touch of the Kenoma. Your presence gives the people ideas... ideas that would disrupt the fragile peace they've come to enjoy, after so many years of suffering. As a kindness, I will only trim the vine, rather than burn the vineyard. What Venerans have taken up your cause, I will see shorn from my empire. And in Godsblood... an example will be made, as of the Sovereign's moon.

My Kenoma will do this for me. Fight them, if you want. But know that I am no longer asking for your fealty. I am demanding it.

[As if opening their court for questions, you will find yourself more able to act. Those that speak or take action will find their physical forms taking shape, standing in the court as people rather than shadows. If you want to question the Regent, now is the time to do so.

OOC: This post is a free for all! We will try to response as the Regent to people who directly engage with them, but you are also allowed to threadjack and interact with each other if you like. Please note that we will not be responding to tag ins done later than the 12th.]

[ Amos is receptive to Yuya's bringing him in. Pliable. Like he really is just a tool for others to operate, and right now, it's Yuya's turn. But there's an earnestness to the moment, so of course he'll comply. Wants to.

He brings himself down, does everything he needs to do for Yuya to be as comfortable as possible in explaining this. This is rapidly going downhill, and the very, very least Amos can do is give him this much.

He's silent as he tries to digest this. It's clearly important to Yuya. It was real. And he gets it, the fact that people are violent, that they deserve to be destroyed. They're on the same page there — or, rather, he was on the same page as past Yuya, and for a different reason.

Amos inhales, exhales, deep. ]

Spirts.

[ He keeps his voice lowered, matching Yuya, but that's about it. His tone is empty, expression shifting into something carefully blank. ]

The spirits were hurting, so you... tried to do it for them.

[ And he's trying to understand. He's really trying here. It's just. Spirits aren't a thing where he's from. It's getting a little hard to reconcile, especially when Amos has something so much more pressing at the front of his mind. ]

Would you have done it for me?

[ It's a very literal question, if evidenced by the way he's slipping into something detached, like this isn't exactly a place he can go, but... he needs to know now. ]

[Most people back home would almost certainly think he'd lost his head if he tried to explain it, so Amos at least not being immediately incredulous is... something. He knows they're just as real as any human, if not tangible in the same ways... but that's hard to believe without actually sensing them, isn't it?

His gaze fixes on Amos when he asks that question. The spirits were his friends. That bond mattered, so of course...]

Of course. [He's honest, without even thinking too deeply about the hypothetical. Had it been Amos? Yuzu? He doesn't have a doubt that scorching the earth is something he's still capable of, if it's for the sake of someone he loves.

He shouldn't even have as much power as an Aion.]

[ He lets out a low breath. It's one of those questions that's impossible to answer with full certainty, because it's such an impossible situation.

But they share a legacy; more than that, something that should be a kinship, except for that one. little. thing. So Amos believes him.

So. ]

Then you get why I'm doing this. The rot's too deep. It has to be done. And the Regent's doing it for the person I was supposed to be. People I knew.

[ And instead of living an entire life used abused no chance entirely powerless at someone else's whims, he'd made it here. It'd be fucked up of him to not do everything he could to see the Regent's vision through. ]

They won't give you the world you think they will.

[That much, Yuya is also certain. A world where no one gets hurt... the kindness that would take to envision is beyond the scope of people like the Regent, or Yuya, who would crush others for the sake of what matters most to them.]

Now that I've seen them... all the hurt to get there won't be worth it. It's just more violence.

[ He finds himself bristling. ]

Sometimes violence is the only way. I wouldn't have made it anywhere without it.

[ And in some ways, violence is truly home for him, more peaceful than peace. There's nowhere he feels more right, more him than in the midst of it. It's all Amos can do but to hammer home that this is his path, conviction in his voice, his being. That everything that Yuya hates about it is what makes the most sense to him. ]

The hurt will be worth it. Because it'll be better.

[ And, firmer: ] Please don't get in the way.

[ He's still pleading with Yuya, but who knows how much longer that's going to last. ]

[Yuya's expression twists as he grits his teeth in frustration. That seems... patronizing? Asc if Amos doesn't really believe he did as much damage as he said, that he didn't come to this conclusion through experience.

He looks away to the side.]
... You heard the Regent, right? If we're not with them we're against them. It's not going to matter if I do anything.

[His existence is the problem. So if Amos really believes that's how he'll get a better world...

He better be ready to snuff Yuya out.]

[ Mere minutes ago Amos would've taken a step back, upset with himself for evoking that reaction from Yuya. Before all of this came to a head, before he'd become aware of just how deep his commitment goes.

There's a limit to how well he can relate to a person, and turns out — just as Yuya's shared something with him Amos has to think he hasn't shared with anyone else, at least not here — he's hit his limit. What Yuya thinks, what Yuya believes, no longer matters.

He feels everything go cold as that realization hits him. Keeps his gaze on him, everything flat but for an undercurrent of frustration he's doing his damnedest to stamp out. ]

Guess not.

[ This is so hard to reconcile, what the Regent had said with what Amos knows — that Yuya doesn't deserve any of this. Whatever he's said he's done, the fate being served up for him is wrong. And it turns out there's no way for him to make it work, so Amos just. Drops it entirely.

Any semblance of emotion is gone from him when he speaks again. ]

If I'm the one who gets you, then I'll make it quick.

[ He's actually not entirely certain in the present moment about his ability to end Yuya like that, but if the chance ever comes, then yeah, he'll probably have it in him. He'll be sure by then. ]

[Yuya almost flinches. Because he knows he won't be able to do the same in return. Not just because of his conviction, but because he's come to care.

He doesn't look up, and he doesn't say anything. He's just... sad. With that confirmation the only thing he feels is misery.]

[ Thanks to their shared legacy Yuya's emotions hit him at full force, smothering him, choking him. At first, Amos isn't sure if he can even breathe. This feels antithetical to what he should be doing, to who he is, like he's lost some part of himself and is only now realizing it.

Kinda funny, for someone who's been lost most of his life and dealt with it by either ignoring it or finding someone to lead the way. The throne looms in his peripheral vision.

And then he looks down at the damage he knows he's just caused, the damage he feels secondhand. It's the kind of thing that would have sent him on a downward spiral once, the kind he'd sent himself down after he got back from Venera. But once he sifts his way past Yuya's emotions, he finds he feels... nothing.

It's a defence mechanism so normal to him he doesn't think to question it. So. Okay. That's it, then.

There's nothing else for him to say. There's nothing he can do here, anyway.

Amos turns away, lets himself fade back into shadows. ]
